Presidential Medal of Freedom Criteria

Yesterday, Americans witnessed the price an individual often pays for exhibiting true Patriotism.

Sadly, the vast majority of Republicans continue to embrace the former president’s “big lie” about a stolen election, ignore his attempted coup, promote baseless conspiracy theories and cheer on crowds of “Brown Shirt” wannabees posturing in military-style dress with AR-15s slung over their shoulders.

Standing apart from their Republican colleagues, ten members of Congress, recognizing the serious threats Trump and his MAGA allies posed to our republic, voted to impeach the former president … two subsequently volunteering for and serving nobly on the January 6th Select Committee.

Each knew their actions could, and for eight did, end any realistic hopes for reelection; among them Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.

Patriotism is not about waving the flag or chanting “USA! USA!”

Rather, it requires an unwavering commitment to the truth, respect for the Constitution and protecting our fragile democracy.

For her courage in defense of the Constitution, knowing she was likely sacrificing her political career, Congresswoman Liz Cheney, together with Congressman Adam Kinzinger and, for his actions on January 6th, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence should be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for demonstrating the true meaning and often cost of Patriotism.
