“We were discussing their strategy for tomorrow, and we were sharing our thoughts, in terms of where the argument was and where to go,”

Senator Ted Cruz

At the outset of the Senate Impeachment trial of Donald Trump, each of the body’s 100 members (the trial’s jurors) declared, “I solemnly swear (or affirm) that in all things appertaining to the trial of Donald John Trump, now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help me God.”

For many, however, they took their solemn oath despite having made it public that they had already made a decision to vote against conviction, prior to even listening to the evidence yet to be presented.

More disturbing, Senators Graham, Cruz and Mike Lee not only left the Sente Chamber during the House Managers’ presentation but subsequently met with Bruce Castor and David Schoen, Trump’s legal defense attorneys, to actively help them prepare the president’s defense.

In any other judicial forum, “jurors” who openly expressed such biased positions or worse conspired with the defense would be summarily disqualified for cause and possibly subject or criminal liability.

Unfortunately for our nation, such moral, ethical and legal standards to not apply to members of the U.S. Senate.

It is apparent many Republican Senators have little, if any, regard for their oath of impartiality, their God before whom thy took that oath, fair and impartial judicial trials, our Constitution or the future of our Republic and our democracy.

Rather, they have signed a Faustian pact with an unhinged, remorseless and vindictive demigod who has demonstrated he will do will anything to achieve his ends; and will ultimately throw them under the bus as soon as he has no further use for them … just as he did to his loyal vice president.

The Senate should vote to disqualify those Senators who knowingly and falsely swore their oath or collaborated with the defense.
