Trump’s continuing threats to annex the Panama Canal and Greenland as being crucial for our national security are not only shear madness but could have disastrous national and international consequences.
Sending troops into a foreign nation which has not attacked the US is tantamount to a declaration of war … which under our Constitution only can be declared by Congress!
It could validate Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine to protect Russia’s national security, Xi a justification for invading Taiwan, and potentially encourage rouge nations like North Korea to send troops into South Korea and Iran to use it Revolutionary Guard against its forces into other Middle East and Gulf neighbors.
Lastly, it could put the US into a military conflict with NATO forces as the Treaty’s Article 5 commits each member state to assist another member state if it is the victim of an armed attack … or spell the death knell for the Alliance.
Then there are Trump’s imperial dreams of annexing Canada and his MAGA wackos proposals to send troops into Mexico to hunt down the drug cartels!
