I ran across an article in last week’s “Milford Cabinet” written by Ms. Nancy Chase of Amherst [NH].

I think Mr. Ellsmore’s arrogance is exceeded only by his lack of good judgement.  In a period when energy conservation is, in theory, one of our highest national priorities, it seems to me that fuel companies should not be pushing for larger minimums … or minimums at all.  The net effect of everyone cutting energy consumption by even a small fraction could go a long way to easing our balance of payments deficit, on the one hand, and giving our industrial technology the time to develop alternative energy sources before the big “crunch” hits …as it will!

Furthermore, according to Nancy, she had a distinct lack of interest on the part of both the Attorney General’s and Governor’s offices.  Again, if her allegations are true, we have got a real problem in this state.  Governor Thompson and his bureaucracies responsible for running the state should, in fact, be our servants, not our masters.  Their one and only function for their being there is to serve the public, the public which pays their salaries.

I do not mean to get steamed up over an isolated incident, but I have spend enough time corresponding with Secretary Schlesinger, President Carter, and others about energy issues and this nation’s lack of a coherent energy policy.
