“You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.”

Daniel Patrick Moynihan

John Dowd’s, President Trump’s attorney, assertion, “The President cannot obstruct justice because he is the chief law enforcement officer … and has every right to express his view of any case,”  is frightening to hear from any attorney; although not surprising coming from the current White House  where the Constitution and its system of checks and balances seem to be an anathema to Trump’s autocratic style.

What Dowd has forgotten and Trump is more than willing to ignore is that no person, even the president, is or should be above the law!

As Donald Trump is the president, his actions may have (or may in the future) crossed the line not only of obstruction of justice, but also, as a federal office holder, abuse of power … the same charges brought against then President Nixon.

Simultaneously, President Trump has (no surprise) endorsed Ray Morse in the Alabama U.S. Senate race.  His partisan political agenda and blissfully ignoring the claims of nine women whom have made serious and credible claims concerning sexual misconduct (some minors at the time) and a retail mall that barred Moore for stalking young girls clearly “trumps” any reasonable moral standards he holds for members of Congress.

Oh yes, I forgot, the president claims many women who’ve accused him of similar sexual wrongdoings were all liars!

These actions come on the heels of Trump’s retweeting of propaganda videos originally posted by Jayda Fransen, the leader of the far-right fringe Britain First, once again demonstrates his willingness to embrace hatred and stir the flames of social divisiveness … as he did in the aftermath of the confrontations in Charlottesville where he all but endorsed white supremacists.

As is often the case, the president never vetted the content he was circulating that had at least two major problems.   One of the videos was “fake” and the perpetrator in the video was a Dutch boy who was neither Muslim nor an immigrant.  The video of a teen being pushed from a rooftop is 3½ years old and took place in Egypt (not the UK), during the violence following the ouster of then-Egyptian President Morsi; with one of the perpetrators subsequently executed for the crime. The third video remains unverified.

Still, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee defended the president ignorance suggesting it was “irrelevant” if the content of the videos was inaccurate and misleading.

Then again, why should anyone be surprised at a man who pays little attention to the truth, excoriates anyone who has the audacity to disagree with him or labels unpleasant information as “Fake News” and frequently calls for muzzling our free press when the media prints unfavorable information or has failed to check its facts.

Just a few of his latest and oft repeated rants included his claims:

  • His inauguration crowed was vastly larger than President Obama’s
    • FALSE – Pictures don’t lie!
  • I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.
    • FALSE – There is no evidence of material voter
  • He won the most electoral college votes since Ronald Reagan.
    • FALSE, Bush 41, Clinton (twice) and Obama (twice) all garnered more electoral votes than Trump.
  • Obama bugged his Trump Tower suites in New York
    • FALSE – No evidence support this claim.
  • Obama was not born in the US
    • FALSE – On September 26, 2016 Trump actually acknowledged Obama was born in the US.
  • He questions the authenticity of the Access Hollywood tape in which he mentions kissing women, grabbing them by their genitals and pushing himself on women, boasting he could get away with “anything” because of his celebrity.
    • FALSE – In the fall of 2016 he admitted, “I said it, I was wrong, and I apologize.”

Trump relishes lavish affairs thrown in honor during his foreign trips and is all too willing to cozy up to and openly admire some of the world’s strongest autocrats – Duarte, Erdoğan,  Xi Jinping, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Vladimir Putin … none of whom he is willing to challenge on their atrocious human rights records.

When President Trump claims that, “I’m the only one that matters” he is 100% wrong!  Congress matters, the Courts matter, the American people matter and the TRUTH matters!
