“United we can solve our problems and divided we have nothing.”

Louis Farrakhan

Early on the morning of November 9th of this year, you spoke to the American people.

“Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division.  To all Republicans, Democrats, and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.   I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me.  For those who have chosen not to support me in the past … I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.”

Those words represent a noble promise and were subsequently echoed by both Hillary Clinton and President Obama.

Since that time, your supporters have been giddy while many of those who voted for Secretary Clinton have shuddered about the direction they fear you will take the country.

To truly “Make America Great Again” will require a nationwide, bipartisan effort, bridging a seriously  divided nation of Progressives, Liberal and Conservatives; Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens and others; Urbanites and Rural folk; Young and Old; Men and Women; Straights and the LGBT community; Union and Management; and Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindi and the non-religious.  Without understanding, tolerance and compromise, common ground between these diverse groups of Americans a united country can never be realized.

  1. Unequivocally denounce bigotry and hate in any form, whether in or out of your Administration, and whether targeting those who have carried “Not my President” signs or ardent supporters. Do more than just be “saddened”; get angry and commit that people in your inner circle who do so will be fired and those who violate the rights of others will be prosecuted!
  1. As you build your Cabinet and teams of advisors, consider and hire some experienced and competent people from “communities” who did not support you and remain open to their opinions, even if not always in sync with your preconceived positions.
  1. Keep your Administration laser-focused on the important issues of strengthening the economy, creating jobs, fiscal responsibility, protecting Americans at home and abroad, strengthening our military, tax reform, refining unfair trade agreements, nuclear proliferation, and improving our educational systems.
  1. As Republicans have criticized Democrats for trying to over-regulate the lives of Americans, steer clear of spending political capital on highly controversial social issues affecting the personal beliefs and lifestyles of private citizens.
  • When interviewed on “60 Minutes” you were asked about gay marriage. You replied, “It’s irrelevant because it was already settled … in the Supreme Court.  And I’m fine with that.”
  • Using the same reasoning, then Roe v. Wade, a 1973 Supreme Court decision, must also be considered “settled” law.
  1. As your Administration’s national agenda has proposals likely to be contentious and even divisive, compromise between those with differing views will be essential.
  • America will benefit from a mix of all forms of energy; but ignoring science and empirical observations could have catastrophic consequences.
  • You have rightly stated there are parts of the Obamacare, which are widely popular and should be retained. Find ways to dramatically improve an admittedly imperfect program as opposed to killing it, which would be difficult at best and potentially ruinous to millions of Americans.
  • Immigration reform and enhanced border security are critical but must be humane, conform with existing laws and respect the principals on which our nation was founded, prospered and endured.
  • The environment and specifically our air and water resources must be protected.
  1. While there are legitimate issues surrounding the Clinton Foundation, pursuing Hillary Clinton over her private email server or Benghazi serves no useful purpose and would just fan the flames of public discontent. You might take advantage of her distinguished record advocating for women and children and invite her to become your special Ambassador for universal Women’s and Children’s Rights.
  1. Guarantee an open and honest administration; easily and frequently accessible by the media irrespective of their real or perceived political leanings.
  1. Meet periodically with and get to know all members of Congress.

American cannot afford another four years of political gridlock, social alienation and skyrocketing debt.

Beginning on January 20th, you will have mandate and the bully pulpit to “to bind the wounds of division” and truly “be the president of all Americans!”
